While millionaires and billionaires in the US continue to be the world's number one superyacht owners – according to statistics – the timeless vessels built in this country are hardly valued and appreciated as they should be. This pedigree luxury sailing yacht signed by two of the biggest names in the industry has sadly dropped its value down to a little over $1 million despite regular efforts to keep it up to date.
Only real connoisseurs will understand the priceless value of owning one of the few remaining American-built yachts that were personally supervised by Andrew Winch throughout the creation process. Andrew Winch and Ron Holland are the titans behind this pedigree 105-footer (32 meters) built in Florida. The Ron Holland Design exterior and naval architecture ensured the yacht's timeless performance, while Andrew Winch himself was personally involved in creating the layout and interior. This alone is enough to consider Vagabond a pedigree yacht.

William Waite established Windship Yacht in Florida during the '70s. Over the next two decades, the shipyard successfully rolled out several custom and semi-custom luxury yachts, some of which are still available today, in good or not-so-good shape. After 1991, Windship Yachts closed its gates forever, making the 1991 Vagabond a rare American classic yacht today.

In 2010, this classic beauty was fully rebuilt without stripping away the Winch magic. With a shiny new superstructure and brand-new equipment throughout, the American sailboat was ready to compete with younger luxury yachts. The sophisticated original layout included three staterooms for up to seven guests, a large galley, an elegant outdoor dining area, and twin helms.

Like any self-respecting classic yacht, Vagabond flaunted an abundance of glossy woods like teak, cherry, and burls. At the same time, the Andrew Winch design carefully balanced it out with modern materials and informal elements for a fresh, relaxed ambiance. That luxurious style stood the test of time. The impressive master suite features a classic-style office area and a cozy lounge, while the opulent bathroom with a Jacuzzi bath and his-and-her sinks flaunts an unusual choice of deep green marble.

Vagabond's performance starts with its top-level design. It combined the benefits of fiberglass with a remarkable shallow draft of just seven feet (2.2 meters), allowing it to reach areas that sailing yachts its size can't typically access. Twin CAT diesels and two generators ensure smooth cruising at eight knots and a range of 2,000 nautical miles (3,700 km). During one of its most recent refits (the latest one was completed last year), Vagabond also got new rigging.

Despite its original pedigree and regular refits, this classic Windship was on a downward spiral the moment it entered the market. At the end of 2011, as Miniskirt and fresh from its 2010 rebuild, it was asking for almost $7 million. Six years later, it was finally sold for $4.5 million. Now, seven years after that sale, Vagabond (ex. Miniskirt) changed hands once again, but for the meager cost of $1.25 million – basically pocket money when talking about an original Andrew Winch and Ron Holland luxury yacht built in the US more than three decades ago.

This price would normally indicate the need for a comprehensive refit, which is not the case for this classic Windship - refitted in 2023. Sadly, the market value of this beautiful American boat does not reflect its timeless appeal and pedigree design.
