Land Rover has revealed the Range Rover Sport pace car that will open the legendary Pikes Peak International Hill Climb this year.
Already the fastest production SUV to ever climb the Colorado mountain, with a course time of 12m35.61s, the 2014 Range Rover Sport will handle pace car duties with a 5.0-liter V8 engine under the hood.
Rated at 510 HP and 460 lb-ft of torque (625 Nm), the range-topping mill enable the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in only 5.3 second. To celebrate the event, the company published a documentary film which shows the Range Rover Sport's record-run at the American course.
The 2013 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is scheduled to take place Sunday, June 30. This year's event has attracted 157 competitors from 16 nations.
