Did you ever happen to notice that wide gap left between the Range Rover Sport and the Evoque? Well, so did Land Rover and the company is purportedly looking to fill that gap with a new model that would fit right in.

In theory, this space between the models that we're talking about isn't all that big in the first place but, considering the times we live in, with niche after niche being created, it makes sense to try and fill it.

Today we have two-door versions of four-door sedans that are then transformed into four-door versions again, and it's all terribly confusing. Fortunately, things aren't so bad in Land Rover territory.

Some might say that the gap between the Evoque and the Sport is filled by the Discovery Sport and they'd be right, technically. The thing is, from a marketing point of view, there's still room for a 5-seat SUV in the Range Rover line-up. Land Rover's Design Director, Gerry McGovern confirmed it as well at the 2015 New York Auto Show.

"I've said there's lots of 'white space' opportunities for Range Rover... I don't need to confirm it," adding that there's enough customer demand out there to justify introducing a new model.

It seems like the management is taking this issue quite seriously so we wouldn't be surprised if the Range Rover nameplate gets a fourth car in a couple of years time. There's definitely a big chunk of that X3, Macan and Q5 market that could be snatched.
