Most of you already know by now that Raikkonen has been heavily linked with a move to Red Bull Racing, where he would replace Australian driver Mark Webber from 2011 onwards (as the Aussie's contract runs out at the end of the season). However, most pundits agreed that the 2007 Formula One champion would think twice about making his F1 return next year if his transition to the WRC will go down smooth.
And, following the last couple of outings in the WRC, not only Raikkonen finds the championship a lot more fun to compete that F1, but he also felt the taste of scoring points. In Rally Turkey, he managed a sensational drive and was one of the few drivers not to experience a tire puncture on the rocky roads of the event, to eventually finish 5th overall (at only his 5th professional rally in the WRC).
Asked about his potential return to F1, the Finn was again blurry on this topic, hinting that an important aspect in making a decision will be how much fun he's going to have in case he decides to come back.
“If the F1 world could go back 20 years, it would be the same as rallying now. It (rallying) is still professional but in just a bit more of a relaxed style,” Raikkonen was quoted as saying to Turun Sanomat newspaper. The Finn is known for his non-fondness of F1's off-track activities and marketing pressures.
“There is no rush for me to make decisions. We'll have to see what are the possibilities and what for me is the most interesting – what I enjoy the most and what it is I most want to do. We will see at a point some time later this year,” added the 30-year old Fin.
