The Ford Mustang GTD Carbon Series is ready for a Nurburgring record. The V8 beast will show up this weekend at the 24 Hours Le Mans to brag about its brand-new Performance pack.
The package is specifically designed to turn the Mustang GTD into a record breaker at the Nurburgring. The target is an under-seven-minute lap. The model wears a head-turning Chroma Flame paint, one of the six standard colors available in the lineup and exclusive to the GTD, making a statement on its European debut. The Carbon Series leaves the hood, roof, and rear Tech Deck unpainted.

The Ford Mustang GTD comes with some aces up its sleeve in order to be able to reach its goal: a sub-seven-minute lap in the Green Hell of the Nurburgring Nordschleife. It will ride on 20-inch new magnesium wheels finished in Magnetite, it will sport active aerodynamics and a redesigned front fascia, as part of the Lightweight pack, with dive planes and a larger splitter.

Underbody flaps and a drag reduction system to the rear wing are also on the menu to reduce drag in a straight line, with no compromise on the grip while cornering.

Ford has never shown the interior of the Mustang GTD before. But that is about to change at Le Mans. The muscle car, officially unveiled in August 2023, just in time for its 60th anniversary in 2024, gets a driver-focused cabin, which sports large 3D-printed titanium paddle shifters for better control on the eight-speed dual-clutch transaxle and standard Recaro seats.

The driver gets all the relevant information displayed on the digital 12.4-inch instrument cluster, while the 13.2-inch touchscreen comes with the Sync 4 infotainment system with Unreal Gaming technology.

A new steering wheel wrapped in leather and sporting premium Dinamica and carbon fiber inserts found its way on board. It has a thick-rimmed flat bottom and additional controls. The steering wheel of the Mustang GTD exclusively features buttons that control the suspension firmness and exhaust mode.

Two new buttons showed up near the rotary gear selector. They help the driver access the Track Apps page and activate a front-axle lift function, which helps them avoid parking lot and driveway obstacles, such as speed bumps or tiny curbs.

Mustang GTD Chief Engineer Greg Goodall says that a car that is designed to set a quick lap at the Nurburgring has to be great at everything: cornering, grip, braking, acceleration. The GTD team learned from motor racing how to make this car check all these boxes.

The Performance pack is available across the Mustang GTD range. The GTD is powered by the supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine, which pumps out more than 800 horsepower (811 metric horsepower), says Ford. That's for a top speed of over 190 mph, says Ford again.

How do you order a Ford Mustang GTD in Europe?

The applications for American customers closed on May 20. Now, it is the Europeans' turn to order an exclusive muscle car. And there is one way they can do it because they can't just walk into a dealership and get one.

The European debut of the GTD marks the official opening of the application window for the European market. It kicks off at 1 PM CET (Central European Time) on June 13. Prospective customers can go to TheMustangGTD.com and apply for the purchase.

That is how they will be able to get the most potent series production Ford Mustang to ever roll off the assembly line.
