Just like some go-fast cars come with a certain setup that favors superb handling but results in a disastrous turning circle, Porsche’s is trying to tell us that its works drivers are so focused on surging forward, that they may not be able to handle a reverse parking job.
This was the idea behind Porsche’s latest commercial, which shows factory driver Mark Lieb “failing” to park a 911. While the metaphor itself is interesting, the German carmaker may have unintentionally revealed a painful truth about some of its cars.
For example, the PASM adaptive suspension of the new 911 seems to have been set up by people who never went past the Nurburgring’s exit. It offers an unsettled ride even regardless of the chosen setting.
Sure, the vehicle is brilliant on a twisty road, but we’re not all works drivers like these gentlemen, some of us want a sports car you can also drive everyday.
