Die-hard Porsche fans have much to be excited about regarding the current 992-generation 911. And we're not talking about the mid-cycle refresh, nor the electrified variant, but the range-topping version of the series: the all-new Porsche 911 GT2 RS.
A long overdue product from an enthusiast's perspective, the new generation Porsche 911 GT2 RS has finally debuted in prototype form. Our spy photographers were at the Nurburgring when the Zuffenhausen brand unleashed this tester between the apexes, and they were able to immortalize it.

Some might argue that it's the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, its inferior sibling. After all, it has the right aero, and it says GT3 RS on the sides. However, in plain Porsche fashion, the team responsible for its development used other components to keep prying eyes away from it. Thus, make no mistake, this is indeed the all-new 911 GT2 RS.

Now, since there is nothing to report regarding the exterior styling, even though there are some small differences compared to the 911 GT3 RS, we will delve into the powertrain topic right away.

This is what tells us that it's a 911 GT2 RS and not the GT3 RS. In all likelihood, we are looking at a twin-turbo setup, either with a 48-volt system or full hybrid power. If it features the former, then it might boast over 700 horsepower, whereas with a partially electrified powertrain, rumors speak of a four-digit output – or close to the 1,000 hp territory.

Contradicting reports also speak about different displacements, and we won't mention it since no one outside Porsche really knows how big the engine is. And since we're still talking about the firepower, we don't think nearly 1,000 hp sounds plausible, so we think it might launch with over 700 hp. That would still be a boost compared to the old car's 690 hp (700 ps/515 kW) produced by the 3.8L twin-turbo flat-six.

The more clever packaging and advancements in powertrain development will make it much quicker than its predecessor, which took just 2.8 seconds to 62 mph (100 kph). We reckon the acceleration will drop to around two and a half seconds in the new one. The top speed could also be higher than 212 mph (340 kph).

Rumors say the all-new Porsche 911 GT2 RS will debut in 2026 and launch as a 2027 model, and we can't wait to see it in an official environment and learn all its secrets. After all, it's the most extreme version of the series, and it will probably try to set a new record for production cars at the Nurburgring Nordschleife.
