Word has it German automaker Porsche is developing a four-door sportscar that will be based on the yet unreleased 918 Spyder.
According to Automobile, the 984 will use a stretched and reinforced version of the carbon fiber chassis that underpins the 918 to make room for the four-door and 2+2 seat configuration. Motivation will be provided by a mid-mounted dry-sump V8 engine that will deliver all its power to the rear wheels.
Even though this piece of information feel out of the blue, Automobile claims that Porsche chief designer Michael Mauer “has created a stunning full-size concept car that is simply too beautiful to spend the rest of its life hidden under wraps.” The concept reportedly carries a “daringly low roof line” and “intake scoops neatly integrated into the flared rear doors”.
The reports contains no other details, but adds that the 984 will be a low-volume vehicle that could cost about €350,000.
