Hybrid supercars have evolved from a strange concept nobody understood into what's soon to become a big part of the industry. Three cars stand at the very tip of the market, getting ready to spear through skepticism and cut through the mist surrounding their performance.
While McLaren's P1 and Ferrari's LaFerrari have already been fully revealed, Porsche is being typically German and revels things as they go. The idea behind the 918 Spyder is basically that you can have your cake and also eat it, by combining some of the best performance figures on the planet with fuel consumption levels that would shame some hybrid family cars.
Powered by a race-derived 4.6-liter V8 and more electronics than you have in your whole house, the 918 Spyder will produce a total output of 887 hp DIN (PS) or 868 hp based on American standards.
Porsche has deemed it necessary that the car should have no less than five modes in which it delivers its insane power.
Priced from €781,155, this German supercar will have just 918 lucky and very rich owners who will enjoy 0-62 mph in 2.8 secs, 211 mph top speed, plus impressive fuel consumption.
Along with the official specifications, Porsche has deemed it necessary to also release a batch of new images showing its production form. We leave it up to you to decide if this is a good car, but we find it has that classic beauty missing from the exaggerated design we seen nowadays.

E-Power
In this mode, the car only uses the electric motors and battery, without ever switching the 600+ hp V8 on. It offers a range of 30 km (18.6 miles) on if the battery is fully charged and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in the same time as a hot hatch, 7 seconds. Top speed is 150 km/h (93.2 mph).Hybrid
When the batteries run out, the 918 Spyder switches into Hybrid mode. This way, it consumes a minimum amount of fuel. This is done by switching between electric and combustion to get the most efficient use.Sport Hybrid
In "Sport Hybrid" mode, the 4.6-liter V8 is always running to ensure you have great response from the throttle pedal.Race Hybrid
Here, performance is key, so the V8 engine and PDK gearbox are sharpened up. Electric power is used to boost acceleration.Hot Lap
This is the ultimate setup for the car, which dumps all the power from the batteries to give you the best possible lap time, draining all electric reserves.Priced from €781,155, this German supercar will have just 918 lucky and very rich owners who will enjoy 0-62 mph in 2.8 secs, 211 mph top speed, plus impressive fuel consumption.
