So you thought that the 7:38 Nurburgring lap time of the 2017 Porsche Panamera Turbo is impressive, huh? Well, prepare for another record. This time around, Porsche is gunning for the fastest lap around the Nurburgring Nordschleife in a frigging longroof.
That’s right, boys and girls, Porsche has finally confirmed that the wagon version of the Panamera is set to debut this fall at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. It goes without saying that the Turbo will be a mind-bogglingly fast family car.
Speaking to our friends at Drive, product line director for the Panamera Dr. Gernot Dollner said: "We'll see three body styles in total [...] The body as we presented today, there will be a long wheelbase version and the new body style - the Sport Turismo."
I know what you’re thinking right now. No coupe and convertible based on the Porsche Panamera? Bollocks! Hope is not lost, though. A recent pre-production prototype of a weird Panamera seems to contradict Dollner, but maybe Porsche wants to completely separate the coupe form the sedan and wagon family.
As expected, the shooting brake body style will adopt the name of the concept on which it’s based on. After it makes its debut in Paris, the 2017 Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo will be rolling off the assembly line before the end of the current calendar year.
Other than the additional space and the mildly different rear-end design, not much will separate the 2017 Porsche Panamera from the 2017 Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo. Therefore, do look forward to three engine options: 4S, 4S Diesel, and Turbo, with the latter packing a 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8.
It related news, the second-generation Porsche Panamera will spawn not one, but two performance hybrid models in the near future. Both of them are expected to get an e-boost function, a go-faster technology Porsche is fairly acquainted with from the 918 Spyder hybrid hypercar.
