You know what's more expensive than a £142,120 Porsche 911 Turbo S? The bespoke GB Edition made by Porsche Exclusive, which retails at a whopping £150k. This UK-only model celebrates the 40th anniversary of the 911 Turbo and will be built in just 40 examples.
My, how time has passed since 1974, the year when the German sports car manufacturer introduced the first ever turbocharged 911, marketed as the Porsche 911 Turbo or 930 in North America. So what do you get for the 8 grand difference between the normal Turbo S and the limited run Exclusive GB Edition?
As it happens, the Porsche Exclusive specialist department dedicated to tailoring cars to bespoke requirements has customized the 911 Turbo S in a uniquely British way. Already available for order, each of the 40 units will be delivered together with a personal photo book documenting the production process, a bespoke Exclusive GB Edition indoor car cover and retro motorsport design paraphernalia.
The outside is adorned with a black rear upper spoiler, a clear link to the first-gen 911 Turbo, 20-inch Sport Classic alloy wheels, black door handles and the Porsche script running along the sills, a detail that also pays homage to the forebear model from the 1970s. Before you drop a deposit, be aware that the special edition model is only available in three exterior finishes: GT Silver, White or Guards Red.
Pull the handle, open the door and step inside the cabin and you'll be met by a storage compartment lid featuring an embossed Union flag, a SportDesign steering wheel with center marking in Guards Red and contrasting stitching similar to what you may find on the leather-wrapped seats. A personalized carbon fiber door sill guard with 911 Turbo S – Exclusive GB Edition in illuminated lettering is also there to welcome you, together with red seat belts and the Porsche crest embossed on the head restrains.
Bespoke floor mats with leather edging and red decorative stitching and carbon fiber interior trim even on the PDK gear lever round off the package nicely. Just like the standard 911 Turbo S, the Exclusive GB Edition is powered by a flat-six twin-turbo mill, rated at 553 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque.
All that punch is handled by an ultra fast PDK automatic transmission which sends power to all four wheels via an electronically controlled AWD system. If you're a naught to 60 mph (96 km/h) kind of driver, than you'll be happy to know that this German bruiser with British visual motifs needs under 3 seconds to do the stint.
