Porsche 911 GT1 Goes on Sale for $1.7 Million

If it comes to Porsche, there are few words that can describe the carmaker's offering, one of them might be “amazing.” But only one model can look as if it has just arrived from the race track, and that is the Porsche 911 GT1 Strassenversion (street version). In case you are wondering this 911 GT1 is the road-going version of the Porsche 911 GT1 race-car, which was built as part of a homolgation process that required a handful of such models to be built, more specifically 25 units.

Also, the 911 GT1 was built for Porsche’s participation in the GT1 class in the 1996 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans and sprtscar racing. Apart from its 911 title, the car actually had very little in common with the regular 911 sports car of the time. The supercar was built on a 993 chassis and also borrowed a couple of design elements from the Porsche 962, but that was all it decided to keep from its ancestors.

This particular model is a 1997 version, finished in white but with black interior. It has a conventional manual gearbox and thus particular car was driven just 900 km (about 550 miles).

Although the engine of the road-going 911 GT1 had to be slightly de-tuned to 536hp to meet European emissions laws, the car offered here has a total output of 690 horsepower, which enables it to accelerate from standstill to 100km/h in 3.3 seconds. The top speed is a whopping 378 km/h (234 mph). If someone is interested this beast will set you back an amazing $1.7 million.
