After giving you our first test drive impressions of the 2014 Polo facelift, we stumbled upon this handsome German car, still a Polo, but the exact opposite of the one we drove.
While the supermini we checked out had a small 1.2 TSI engine with BlueMotion fuel sipping technology, this R WRC has a 2.0 TSI it borrowed from a Golf GTI. What's more, the output is over two times greater: 90 hp compared to 220 hp.
But it's the color we're interested in right now. While the little 1.2 was covered in Cornflower Blue, this hot version comes in Sunflower Yellow Metallic, courtesy of the wrapping specialists at Schwabenfolia.
This isn't their first Sunflower yellow project. The Austrians have also done a Golf 7 GTI and an Audi TT RS in this shade.
Stuffing 220 hp into the body of a 3-door city runabout sounds like a really crazy idea. No wonder Volkswagen only made 2500 of these hot hatchlings, our yellow sunflower seed being an early number 96. With Vdub winning every major race in the WRC calendar, this rally stage refugee has plenty of street cred. The only downside we can think of is that it's front-wheel drive, compared to the Audi S1 and Golf R, which are both all-wheel drive.
