June 27, 2024 is a big day for Polestar. In addition to delivering the first Polestar 3 customer vehicles at the company's headquarters in Sweden, the BEV manufacturer has added the 403-mile Polestar 3 Long Range Single Motor to the lineup.
403 miles is 650 kilometers in the WLTP's combined test cycle, meaning 18.9 to 20 kilowatt hours per 100 kilometers or 62 miles. Acceleration to 100 clicks? Make that 7.8 seconds, while maximum speed is estimated at 180 kilometers per hour (112 miles per hour).

US pricing information sadly isn't available for this particular specification, with the US configurator listing the Polestar 3 Long Range Dual Motor and Polestar 3 Long Range Dual Motor Performance Pack. They're priced at $73,400 and $79,400, respectively, with EPA driving range estimates of 315 to 279 miles. In terms of acceleration, the dual-motor setup is vastly superior, promising 4.8 and 4.5 seconds to 60 miles per hour or 5.0 and 4.7 seconds to 100 kilometers per hour if you prefer metric units.

Over in Germany, which is Europe's largest new car market, Polestar 3 kicks off at 78,590 euros for the Long Range Single Motor, 85,590 euros for two electric drive units, and 92,190 euros for the go-faster specification. The WLTP driving range estimates for the dual-motor twins are 631 and 561 kilometers, respectively. It goes without saying that WLTP is far more optimistic than the Environmental Protection Agency's way of estimating battery-electric vehicle driving range.

Controlled by Chinese giant Geely Holding rather than Volvo Cars, the Swedish automaker will produce single-motor 3s in China and the United States of America. The Long Range Single Motor uses the very same 111-kWh battery as the Long Range Dual Motor. It obviously flaunts the very same 250-kW peak charging capability, resulting in 30 minutes from 10% to 80% state of charge.

The rear-mounted electric motor is good for 220 kilowatts and 490 Nm, as in 295 horsepower and 361 pound-feet of torque. An equivalent mid-size luxury crossover is the 2025 BMW X5, which comes as standard with a single-turbo sixer outputting 375 ponies and 398 lb-ft (540 Nm).

Polestar's current flagship is closely related to the Volvo EX90, with both underpinned by the SPA2 electric vehicle architecture. But in stark contrast to the three-row Volvo, the 3 features two rows of seats. Prospective customers of the Long Range Single Motor are presented with frequency selective damping and hydraulic rebound stops for superlative dynamics and ride comfort.

Six paint colors also need to be mentioned, of which only Magnesium is standard. Snow, Thunder, Jupiter, Midnight, and Space add 1,300 to 1,600 euros to the final price of the rear-wheel-drive crossover. Notable options include 1.3-megapixel HD LED headlights, which are only available with the Pilot and Plus packages.

Pilot stands for Pilot Assist, lane change assist, park assist, and a 360-degree camera system with 3D view. Pilot pack with LiDAR is also a thing, with LiDAR promising advanced driver-assist functions. Plus pack sweetens the deal with active road noise cancellation, Bowers & Wilkins audio to the tune of 25 speakers (including headrest speakers), a head-up display, an infrared windshield, heated everything, a fancy air filtration system, and a foldable trunk floor.

Polestar 3 can also be optioned with the so-called Pro pack, which adds a set of sleek alloys and some gold touches for the exterior and interior. As per the German configurator, European deliveries for the Polestar 3 Long Range Single Motor will start in either February 2025 or March 2025.
