This year’s edition of the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este motor show in Italy should be something to remember, with all the exciting and exclusive machines that will be on display there. However, the car that most of us will like to see is a coachbuilt Ferrari convertible called the Super America 45.
The one-off supercar has been specially commissioned by someone with a lot of cash in their pocket, a New York billionaire to be more precise: Peter Kalikow, who also owns another coachbuilt Ferrari made by Pininfarina, the 612 Kappa and has formally owned the New York Post.
The image we are showing you is of the Ferrari P540 Superfast Aperta, built by the same company for... the inventor of cable TV in 2009. Unfortunately, this is the only thing that we can go by to judge what the Super America will look like, as Pininfarina has been keeping the whole thing under wraps.
However, we can tell you that the convertible will likely be based on the 599 GTB Fiorano or the 599 GTO, with some claiming it may feature a similar rotating central-piece roof to the 2005 Ferrari 575 Superamerica. What this means is that the open-top supercar will probably have the same 6-liter V12 engine, though Pininfarina may have played with it a little bit in order to meet the billionaire's stringent demands.
The Italian design house also recently built the Ferrari SA Aperta, the convertible version of the 599 GTO in a limited run of 80 units, which could sever as an inspiration.
Other bespoke models arriving at the 2011 edition of the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, which runs from May 20 to 22, include the Audi Quattro Concept, Mercedes-Benz Concept Shooting Break, Infiniti Etherea Concept, Italdesign Giugiaro Go!, Rinspeed Bamboo, Renault DeZir and the Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus P4/5.
