Yet another car company has announced record sales in Britain. Peugeot has registered huge demand for its 208 supermini and thus reached a total of 56,000 new car sales for the first half of 2013, placing the company on its way towards toping 100,000 deliveries this year.
Peugeot's sales during the first half were 7% up compared to the same period last year, with retail sales growth of 17% suggesting and increase in the attractiveness of certain models.
Interestingly, the first half results now place Britain as the third largest market for Peugeot, after France and China.
Unsurprisingly, the biggest seller for the French brand was the 208 supermini, which sold 21,000 units so far in 2013. This places the 208 among the top 10 best selling cars in the country, booster perhaps by the arrival of the 208 XY and 208 GTi, recent arrivals.
“Since it was launched a year ago more than 40,000 208s have been sold in the UK,” said Neil Moscrop, Director of Sales for Peugeot UK. “Orders for GTi and XY combined stand at almost 1,000 units and make up 10% of the model’s sales mix. That’s ahead of expectations and together they epitomise Peugeot’s move upmarket.”
