The guys over at Peugeot have already confirmed that the 508 platform will spawn a lot of models in the years to come, but nobody knew that the French engineers are actually preparing a large luxury sedan. As it happens in this cases, Peugeot refuses to provide more details, while rumors and those from within the company provide the only details that hint about such a project.
A report by AutoBild claims that the sedan will most likely be an upgraded 508 model, so it would be naturally to see the upcoming model based on the 508 platform. It will even get the engines currently available on the 508, but the lineup might also get a 1.6-liter turbo with 200 horsepower plus a 3.0-liter V6 with 275 horsepower.
Peugeot 508, which will go on sale this year, will be powered by either gasoline or diesel engines, specifically optimized and equipped with Start-Stop technology for enhanced efficiency. A 1.6-liter e-HDi FAP producing 112 bhp and 285 Nm of torque that uses a EGC 6-speed gearbox, with a fuel consumption of 56 mpg (4.2 l/100km) and CO2 emissions of 109 g/km, will be fitted on the gasoline trims, while diesels will come in the form of a 2.2 litre HDi FAP fitted on the GT version that develops 204 bhp and 450 Nm of torque mated to a 6-speed automatic.
The most powerful configuration will be the 1.6-litre THP that outputs 156 bhp and 240 Nm of torque, also emitting 150 g/km of CO2.
Peugeot is still tightlipped on the 601 model, so we'll provide more information as soon as it emerges.
