The Peugeot 406 Coupe was a Pininfarina design, and this clarly showed. Sleek, low and lean, it had plenty of fans which were loyal until they saw the 407. This had a sort of executive car feel to it, despite Peugeot’s efforts to hide its sedan origins with gills on the bumper.
While the 508 that replaced the 407 makes for a better sedan, it’s not the sort of car that you chop the doors off.
However, Peugeot also recently unveiled the 408, a sort of budged sedan for Emerging markets like Russia. We’re not particularly impressed with its dated design, but this could be used as a platform for a simple mid-size European coupe.
The bad news is that this will likely never happen due to the overlap with the 308 CC. Peugeot has developed a naming system under which all cars will start with either '1' or '8'. The 301 and other cars that end in 1 will be budget-minded, and the ‘8’ models are to be more upmarket.
