After yesterday's leaked photos of their beloved new hot hatch concept, Peugeot waisted absolutely no time and came out with the full press details on the 308 R Concept.
Exactly like we predicted, the car features a 1.6-liter turbo engine, which is uncommon in this segment and is usually seen on smaller cars like the Clio RS and 208 GTi. However, the engine is not rated at the usual 200 hp, rather 270 hp, making it the most powerful 1.6-liter turbo out there with a specific power output of 170 hp/liter.
The Peugeot 308 R Concept previews a production car, so we found it quite interesting that this concept is being presented with a six-speed manual and a limited slip differential. The RCZ R has the exact the exact same output and setup, which Peugeot has claimed makes it capable of 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. As far as we know, that's the fastest you can go in a FWD hatch currently in production.
So yes, the 308 R promises to be a very interesting car, not least because it's ween widened, lowered to the extreme and fitted with large 19-inch two-tone alloy wheels. We're not completely blown over with its styling, but it's definitely better than the regular 308.
