To be frank, Peugeot's lineup is better than what the French manufacturer boasted a couple of years ago, but current models still lack that enthusiastic sparkle that makes you go "Wow! I want to buy this car now!" Regardless of that, Peugeot spiced up its 2008 crossover and 3008 MPV with two new special editions.
Both bear the Crossway moniker, but what does this special edition treatment actually bring to the table? To sum things up, a few enhancements here and there that add excitement to the otherwise boring Peugeot models. Based on the Allure trim level, the 2008 Crossway is personalized with compass badges on the front doors that make you feel like Bear Grylls. Mind you, don't try to take this pucker Frenchie off-road 'cause it's still just a front-wheel drive hatchback with added ride height.
Other notable additions include matte grey alloy wheels measuring 17 inches in diameter, tinted windows, the electronic Grip Control traction control system, satellite navigation and Alcantara detailing on the seats and dashboard with red contrasting stitching to boot. Under the hood you can opt for the 1.6-liter VTi 120 petrol and two diesels (e-HDi 932 and 1.6 e-HDi 115). The petrol starts from €21,550 in France, while the optional extras sheet includes park assist and a few metallic finishes.
Moving on to the Peugeot 3008 Crossway, this MPV crossover in special edition flavor adds floor mats adorned with compass detailing, aluminum door sills, a heads-up display, sat-nav, as well as leather and Alcantara with contrasting bronze stitching. The least expensive model is the 1.6-liter HDi 115 coupled to a six-speed manual gearbox, holding a base price of €30,800 in Peugeot's home market. Prepare to pay extra for the 2-liter HDi 150 or for the rearview camera, Grip Control traction control system and special paint jobs.
Peugeot informs that both Crossway special editions models are available for order, with first deliveries expected sometime during the fall. Both the 2008 and 3008 Crossway will be showcased this summer at Peugeot's Adventure Museum in Sochaux, France, and at the 2014 Paris Motor Show this October.
