The Japanese automaker Nissan is on a big roll. According to their latest business plan, they will introduce 15 new models for the fiscal year 2024 to 2026. However, they didn't say they were also going to kill off some other nameplates.
They have already started the roll-out with the all-new Nissan Kicks compact crossover SUV and the all-new Infiniti QX80 and will continue later this year with the all-new 2025 Murano mid-size CUV and Patrol/Armada full-size SUVs. After that, there will be five brand-new and six all-new models over a period of two years – the final goal is to have 60% of the ICE-powered lineup "renewed and reinforced."

Well, there isn't only good news out there – while the rumor mill and the imaginative realm of digital car content creators are full of 2025 Nissan Maxima renderings, don't hold your breath for a ninth generation because it's simply not going to happen. At least not with ICE power because a new Maxima sedan could arrive down the line, albeit with an EV powertrain like Ariya and Leaf.

No worries, this is not another illustration of the all-new next-generation Maxima. Instead, it's a quirky CGI mix between the discontinued sedan and the R35 Nissan GT-R! The latter is also on the 'kill list' as the company has already announced the special editions that will say goodbye to America – the exclusive T-spec Takumi Edition and the Skyline Edition. As per the name, the latter finally brings the storied moniker of the legendary R35 predecessors to the current lineup – just in time to say farewell.

As for the creator, Jim, a virtual artist known as jlord8 on social media, loves messing around with all things CGI from the automotive realm, and like many other pixel masters, he sometimes dreams of a four-door R35 Nissan GT-R. Dubbed 'Maxim GT-R,' his design project adheres to the latest R35 changes announced for the 2024 model year – and it's easy to recognize thanks to the wacky LED DRLs.

However, it also gets Maxima's radiator grille treatment, rear doors, and an elongated wheelbase. The sporty treatment also includes dark alloy wheels, contrasting yellow brake calipers, and a chameleonic paintjob. If you don't like the Maxima x GT-R treatment but still want the latter to be turned into a four-door sedan, then perhaps Brazil's Lushka (aka lushka_design on social media) will get your CGI story straight – complete with a cruder design and much larger front door.

So, what do you think? Was Nissan right to drop the Maxima sedan from its American lineup, and are we going to miss the R35 Nissan GT-R when the next generation arrives with a potentially electrified powertrain?
