Only One Automaker in Top 10 Global Brands: Toyota

Japanese carmaker Toyota has yet another reason to brag about after it was rated the best automotive brand in the list of the top 100 global brands generated by international brand consultant Interbrand. Toyota is in fact the only automaker that made it into the top 10, coming in at No.8.

This, however, does represent a decline comparing to last year’s report, where Toyota clinched No.6 on Interbrand’s list. Once again, first place was Coca-Cola’s, who has been topping the list for the past seven years, autoobserver.com reported.

But getting back to the auto industry, although Toyota was the only one to achieve a top 10 position, automakers are dominating the 10-20 positions, with Mercedes-Benz placed No. 12 (down from No. 11 in 2008), BMW is No. 15 (down from No. 13) and Honda scored a No. 18 rank, climbing two places from its No. 20 position in 2008.

Then we have to scroll down to the middle of the list to find other automakers, with Ford staying at No.49, the same as on last year’s list. Other carmakers on the list include Volkswagen at No. 55 (down from No. 53); VW's Audi brand at No. 65 (up from No. 67) and Hyundai at No. 69 (up from last year's No. 72).

Among the last to make it to the list is Porsche at No. 74 (up one position from No. 75 last year); Ferrari at No. 88 (up from No. 93 in 2008); and Lexus at No. 96, down from No. 90 last year.
