Right now, the 2013 SRT Viper is only a dream, an American dream of beautiful build quality, masses of muscle and leather from Europe. That’s right, there’s only one 2013 model built, and you can’t have it. But soon you’ll be able to drive round the corner and pick up your $100,000 supercar, right?
Wrong! Just like there isn’t a Ferrari dealership inside a dodgy Chrysler showroom, so too must the place where you can pick up your SRT Viper be differentiated. Only about 15 percent of all Chrysler dealerships will be eligible to sell the all-new American supercar, as the Auburn Hills-based automaker has revealed.
Unlike the crude old versions of the Viper, this one will use advanced composite materials, better quality leather, climate control, launch control and a host of other goodies. It’s an upscale car that needs upscale dealers to take care of customers.
“We’re going to open it up to any dealer who can put the money forward and the training, but it’s going to be pretty difficult to hit all of those things,” SRT CEO Ralph Gilles told Automotive News. “You’ve got to have the training, the facilities, and some history of selling Vipers and SRTs in general.”
