British motorists will be able to celebrate the upcoming Olympic Games using Olympic-sports-related registration, with this being a first in the the history of the Games.
A one-off Olympic-themed auction, which will include 1,750 registrations, is set to take place between June 7 and June 9 at London Mayor Boris Johnson’s mayoral chamber at City Hall.
The vanity plates will include popular sports like boxing, cycling and rowing, as well as minority sports such as BMX racing. Examples include plates like 2012 OG (GBP1,500/ EUR1870), GO11 DEN (GBP2,500/ EUR3,116) and WON 601D (£400/ EUR 498.5).
“No other country in the history of the Olympic Games has celebrated the event in this manner. We are dedicating the first 50 lots of the sale to Olympics-themed plates and we’re excited to see who may turn up and bid,” said Jody Davies, DVLA Personalised Registrations’ Events Manager.
