In mid-March we reported about Norton hiring the Oz gun Cameron Donald for riding Donington Hall machinery in the next three Isle of Man Tourist Throphy seasons. While at that time we only knew that the bike was called SG3 and the road racing legend Mick Grant was in charge of development. Today Norton decided to show the SG3 for the first time, with a detailed coverstory to be published in the printed edition of MCN.
The SG3 has a handbuilt Norton chassis, based on the one used in the 2013 Isle of Man TT, but which has received a lot of tweaks and a rake reduced even more, for sharper, faster turning. Inside this frame, Norton loaded an Aprilia RSV4 engine which produces around 200 horsepower after the tuning it received.
For the 2014 races, Norton says that even the aerodynamics has been improved, so the bike should perform noticeably better than it did last year. In 2013, Norton had Ian Mackman aboard the TT machine, with a best placement in the 18th position.
Cameron Donald is the only rider Norton will field in the 2014 Isle of Man TT, with entries in the Superbike and Senior TT races. Donald is currently testing the SG3 at the Oulton Park circuit, visordown reports.
