Rumors about AMG building a hypercar that would be slotted above the SLS have been around for quite a while, but now Tobias Moers, head of vehicle development at AMG, has come to dismiss this.
Moers recently told CarAdvice that AMG isn’t currently interested in the hypercar or the hybrid segments. This means that Mercedes won’t join Porsche, Ferrari and McLaren in the eco hypercar offensive.
The executive explained that hypercar customers want brands that are more exotic than AMG, but said that the company is looking to release two new go-fast models. One could be placed in between the C63 AMG Coupe and the SLS AMG, while the second could be a concept that would hint at the future of the SLS.
As for the hybrid part of the deal, AMG prefers to focus on further development of internal combunstion-only vehicles. To be more specific, the exotic materials used on the SLS AMG Black Series will make their way into the rest of the AMG line-up.
