The Nissan GT-R is I think doing quite well considering its age, but the hotness of a supercar is exponentially diminished by the age of its design. There is one way, however, to instantly add appeal and justify any creaks or rattles in an arthritic old body: make it a convertible.
Nissan are the the kinds of weird chops (think Murano CrossCabrio), but even they are unlikely to do something as strange as this, a convertible GT-R. That's why a company called Newport Convertible Engineering is proposing you give them a car so they can take the roof off.
The California-based team is a wild-child of the internet, proposing the craziest of ideas. But even so, they did make a convertible version of the Range Rover, which had the fell of a safari vehicle about it. For the GT-R, they're proposing three different solution: dual humps like a Porsche Carrera GT, a roll bar and a regular convertible without the roll bar.
Needless to say, the performance of the GT-R will be compromised to some degree. But spoiling one car to create something truly original is a small price to pay for internet fame and fortune. Eye-full or eye-grabber, it really only depends on who's eye you're talking about.
Chop it, chop it, chop it!
