Nissan Grants ECO Pedal License to Mikuni

Nissan announced that it will grant a license to Mikuni Corporation for use of the ECO Pedal technology it developed. The system was initially commercialized in the Nissan Fuga, helping the driver achieve better fuel efficiency.

When the eco-pedal system is on, each time the driver steps on the accelerator, a counter push-back control mechanism is activated if the system detects excess pressure, helping to inform the driver that they could be using more fuel than required. An eco-driving indicator integrated into the instrument panel feeds the driver with real-time fuel consumption levels to help improve his/her driving behavior.

The ECO Pedal system can be turned on or off according to the driver’s preference, although studies have shown that the ECO Pedal drive assist helps the drivers reduce fuel consumption by 5 to 10 percent in many conditions, proving to be effective.

Mikuni collaborated with Nissan on the development of the ECO Pedal drive assist, with initial application on the Fuga. Through the licensing agreement, this technologies will be available for sale to other companies.

Nissan contributes to the growth of technology by sharing its know-how. Profit obtained through the effective utilization of the system will be reinvested in new technology development, further contributing to Nissan's technological competence.

Granting the license of the ECO Pedal to Mikuni is an example of efforts to promote the application of its unique technologies. Nissan is committed to developing and promoting the wide-spread application of eco-friendly technologies that save fuel and reduce CO2 emissions, helping in the development of a sustainable society.
