While some automakers were busy announcing their debuts for the 24 Hours of the Nurburgring, Volkswagen released another teaser for the upcoming Transporter (T7).
The new model will succeed the T6.1, and as every van enthusiast knows, it builds on the Ford Transit Custom. However, it sets itself apart from its American sibling by featuring a different exterior design that ties it to other models in the Bulli lineup, like the Multivan and ID. Buzz.
But why does Volkswagen offer three vans of roughly the same proportions? Well, the Multivan is a passenger-focused vehicle, so neither this model nor the ID. Buzz Cargo, which features a battery-electric powertrain, could succeed the T6.1. The latter was dropped in light of the new emission and cybersecurity regulations, hence why the T7 will soon join the aforementioned models.
While the profile looks similar to that of its Ford Transit Custom sibling, save for the flat side window line, the front and rear ends are different. The all-new Transporter's face resembles the ID. Buzz and Multivan, and it sports different taillights at the other end with LED graphics, mounted on each side of the tailgate or the dual doors, depending on the configuration.
In the latest press release accompanying the teasers shared above, Volkswagen also mentions the new wheels. These measure 16, 17, and 19 inches in diameter, and the largest offering has a diamond-cut rim flange and six black spokes and inner surfaces. Just like the T6.1 and the Crafter, the fuel filler cap was integrated into the area of the B-pillar.
Depending on the chosen version, the all-new Volkswagen Transporter measures between 198.8 inches (5,050 mm) and 214.6 inches (5,450 mm) in length. It will mirror the Ford Transit Custom's wheelbase lengths, and that will also apply to the powertrain family. As a result, the new Transporter is expected with diesel engines, plug-in hybrid assembly, and battery-electric ones.
Nevertheless, while we may know a lot about the next-generation VW Transporter, full details about it will be announced in due course. When is that? In a few months, as the vehicle will celebrate its market launch in the first quarter of 2025, arriving in selected markets from the Blue Oval's factory in Turkey, where it will be put together next to its Transit Custom (and the Tourneo) cousin.
Mind you, despite not being officially unveiled, customers can officially express their interest in the 2025 Volkswagen Transporter T7. You see, the Wolfsburg automaker's LCV (Light Commercial Vehicle) division has started pre-sales in the Old Continent for this model, stating that the upcoming Transporter kicks off at €36,780. That's in its home market of Germany, before tax, and it equals $39,835 at the current exchange rates.
