Introduced at the 2012 Sao Paolo Motor Show in Brazil as a concept vehicle, the Volkswagen Taigun is rumored to become available as a production model in 2016.
Based on either the Volkswagen Golf or the smaller Up! model, some sources claim the latter is more likely to underpin the crossover, the new Tiguan will be developed as an affordable vehicle aimed at the emerging markets. With an official statement yet to be made, it’s believed that the Taigun should arrive with a price of around €15,000, about €5,000 cheaper than the next Tiguan.
Little is known about the production version of the Taigun, but it should be offered with a four-cylinder engine, unlike the concept car that’s powered by turbo 1.0-liter three-cylinder mill rated at 110 HP. Also, the Taigun should come with all-wheel drive as an option.
