Frankfurt opened its doors wide and welcomed a French car with a lot of German character. We're of course talking about the new Peugeot 308, a contended for the compact hatch market in Europe that secretly want to be a Golf.
Sales of the previous generation 308 weren't all that good, so for this model they went back to the drawing board. The biggest clue that this is inspired by Wolfsberg is in the 308's design. It's good and modern, but subdued, like it's been to cooking school and learned not to cook with so much garlic.
While it might now lack the head-turning power of something like a Mercedes A-Class, the 308 is a French car through and through on the inside. This early launch commercial combines the best this Peugeot has to offer, including that clean interior and the technological improvements.
There's a hint of Audi's ultra ideology at the beginning of the commercial, but nobody can take the small steering wheel and the simplistic dash away from this car. It's an excellent marketing exercise, this commercial, and it should help the car sell.
Does the 308 drive like an eagle soaring through a canyon? No, but it has 95% of what it takes to challenge the establishment.
