While we’re all impatiently awaiting the latest iteration of the M5 and M5 Touring business sedan and station wagon high-performance models, BMW throws velvet-covered curve balls around the Cannes Film Festival.
Seriously, after all the incessant spying, leaking, rendering, and teasing of the BMW M5 and M5 Touring pair, we would have sighed in relief for a couple of days if the Bavarian automaker finally unveiled them on the catwalk of the French Riviera’s 77th annual edition of the Cannes Film Festival. Instead, we got a velvet and sequin-covered BMW XM clad in purple to go along with premieres like "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga" – which bodes just as well as gasoline and fire.

Anyway, the odd vehicles from BMW are in abundance these days – but at least the fresh BMW M4 CS has also become the company’s second-fastest production model at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. In case you were wondering, though, the Bavarian automaker still makes normal-looking vehicles. One of them, for sure, is the G05 fourth and current generation of the popular X5 mid-size luxury crossover SUV.

It was introduced on BMW's Cluster Architecture (CLAR) also used for the 5 and 7 Series back in 2018 and last year the automaker went ahead with the traditional LCI to bump its coolness with a refreshed grille, new bumper, redesigned headlights and taillights, new wheel designs, and tech features from the latest 7 Series like the Highway Assistant.

However, some folks still don’t feel that BMW did enough and some of them can even take matters into their own hands – or at the tip of their CGI brush, as is the case here with the imaginative realm of digital car content creators. More precisely, the good folks over at the AutoYa info channel on YouTube have unofficially imagined the CGI looks of the upcoming 2025 or 2026 BMW X5 (M) with an unofficial, potential second facelift or as a subtly enhanced fifth iteration.

The resident pixel master didn’t slack, by the way. Instead, the hypothetical X5 is presented from no less than four different POVs – three on the outside and another dedicated to the interior. Both the cockpit and the body also receive a host of luxurious color options, as per tradition. However, everything is merely wishful thinking at this point in time and beware to trust these unofficial renderings. In fact, it would be a little odd if BMW came up with another refresh or directly the next generation model so quickly after the regular mid-cycle facelift, right?

Hopefully, though, when they do make the changes, we are not going to debate yet another quirky apparition like the XM or X7 LCI – the mid-sized X5 and even the X6 have remained an oasis of normalcy in a sea of controversial BMW designs.
