With the 2019 BMW 3 Series already among us and the debut of the new M3 approaching quickly, aficionados are already looking forward to the arrival of the fresh 4 Series family.
The new BMW 4 Series could debut in the final part of 2019, albeit with this set to land in Coupe form first. As for the 4 Series Convertible, the open-air model should come after six to twelve months.
Of course, we musn't forget the 4 Series Gran Coupe - this will no longer share customers with the 3 Series Grand Turismo having been axed, which, given its oddball appearance, is not exactly a surprise. In fact, the 4GC is even rumored to receive an all-out M version, which will join the M4 Coupe and Convertible.
The Bavarian automotive producer is also scheduled to introduce the i4 (think: all-electric 4 GC-like model), but this won't land until 2021.
To help aficioandos pass the time, I've brought along a rendering that portrays the 2021 BMW 4 Series Coupe, which you can find in the social media post at the bottom of the page.
Sure, this pixel play isn't perfect, as, for instance, the proportions of the vehicle's posterior bring it closer to the short-tail look of the outgoing 2 Series. This obviously won't be the case, as shown by 4er test vehicles.
As is the case with most BMW models these days, the new 4 Series will be underpinned by the CLAR architecture. This means that, despite a small increase in overall length, the machine will be slightly lighter.
The engine range will obviously be shared with the 2019 BMW 3 Series. So, looking up from the typical four-and six-cylinder engines, we can expect M440i and M440d models, while the M4 family will offer up to 510 hp in Competition trim. All of these configurations should be offered with xDrive all-paw hardware, with this probably involving the M cars. Oh and let's not forget that plug-in hybrid.
