Denny Hamlin's criticism towards Gen 6 NASCAR seems to have bothered the National Association for Stock Car Racing enough to dictate a $25,000 fine for the Joe Gibbs Racing driver.
Adopting the "we don't take kindly to your types around here", NASCAR has decided to show Hamlin who's who, and "awarded" the 32-year old a $25,000 fine for saying that Gen 6 cars "did not race as good as our Generation 5 cars".
In response, NASCAR decided the driver violated Section 12-1 of the rule book by "denigrating the racing product", an action which, of course, "cannot be tolerated".
Hamlin didn't take too long to react, saying he'd rather be suspended than pay the ridiculous fine: "This is the most upset and angry I’ve been in a really, really long time about anything. As far as I’m concerned, I’m not going to pay the fine. If they suspend me, they suspend me. I don’t care at this point.
Denny Hamlin made the initial "denigrating" comments following the Phoenix International Raceway Sprint Cup race that took place on March 3.
