The International Space Station (ISS) has been in the skies over our planet since 1998 when the first component was sent up. In the time that has passed since, over 230 people from 18 countries went to the station.
The ISS has been continuously occupied since November 2000, with international crews of six taking turns to conduct various experiments in space. Yet very few of us down here on Earth know the names of the people that have been doing experiments in zero-G on our behalf.
NASA plans to change that and announced this year its intention of making astronauts the next big social media stars. They want astronauts to be visible, desirable and just as big of influencers as vloggers and football players.
Also unknown to most of us, the American space agency has been trying to bring bling to space exploration ever since the launch of the first crew to the ISS. It has been doing so by making the astronauts pose in creative posters, some of which reference movies, other books, and so on.
Unfortunately for it and its greater goals, NASA pretty much keeps these posters locked away in a dark and remote corner of the Internet. We stumbled upon then accidentally and thought to bring them to your attention now, as we are about to start a defining year for human expansion into space.
Going through the gallery above you'll see astronauts posing as the cast of Matrix (Expedition 16), a crew from a Federation starship (Expedition 21) and even as Pirates of the Caribbean (Expedition 30). There's even a Star Wars tribute on the poster for Expedition 45.
In the gallery above you have all the posters for the missions deployed to the International Space Station until the most recent ones. Have your say in the comments section below and tell us which one you like the most.
