The BMW Group has announced the U.S. pricing for the 6-cylinder 7 series sedan at NAIAS. The 740i will have a starting price of $71,025* and its long wheelbase sibling, the 740 Li, will retail from $75,425*. Both of them will be available for U.S. customers starting this Spring.
The nonidentical twins are powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.0 liter straight six engine delivering 315 HP and 330 lb-ft of torque (available form 1600 to 4500 rpm), which features direct fuel injection, and variable camshaft technology (Double - VANOS, in the BMW language).
This slightly lighter 740 i version deals with the first hundred in 5.9 seconds, while the 740 Li needs 6 seconds for that. Both cars (obviously) have an electronically-limited top speed of 155 mph.
As followers of the BMW Efficient Dynamics trend, the 740i and the 740 Li post a combined consumption figure of 28.5 mpg and 28.2 mpg respectively, and return emission figures of 232g/km and 235 g/km.
Both models will offer their future owners the choice of the regular 7 series optional extras and packages such as M Sport Package, Luxury Seating Packages, Driver Assistance Package, Rear Entertainment Package, and the Bmw Individual Composition Package.
Our favorite toy on the 7 series? It has to be the Integral Active Steering. An equipment which allows the rear wheels to turn by up to 3 degrees. At low speeds the rear wheels turn in the opposite direction to the front ones. At higher velocities the rear wheels are steered in the same direction as the front ones offering previously unimaginable levels of stability.
*Prices include the $875 destination and handling charges.
