Wheel stands are probably the most spectacular stunts one can witness at the drag strip. It doesn’t matter whether they’re a quarter mile-long or the result of a lightning-fast take off. It’s the best thing you can have at the track along with powerful pro stocks, mods or whatever tickles your fancy.
But wheel stands are pretty dangerous too, and we’ve seen plenty of dragsters getting wrecked after starting a quarter mile run with the front wheels up in the air. Fortunately, we won’t be showing you a crash today, but what you’re about to see below is an extremely lucky near miss.
We’re talking about Jake Conant and his tricky run at the Cecil Country Dragway this weekend, where his 2003 Ford Mustang Cobra almost got totaled after a forceful launch. Although the musclecar took off the track and leaned onto its side, Conant somehow managed to make it land on all four wheels. Scroll below to see the action.
