Remember the Jimmy? That body-on-frame icon was GMC's take on the Chevrolet K5 Blazer, an off-road SUV sporting a full convertible top until model year 1975. The Jimmy we're covering today isn’t a restomod, but rather a modern-day GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 modified by the folks at Flat Out Autos to resemble a good ol' Jimmy.
Based out of Jonesboro, Arkansas, the company first received mainstream attention at the 2019 SEMA Show with the fabulous K5 Tahoe Conversion. The Porsche Chalk Gray-painted Jimmy is headed to Mecum's Harrisburg 2024 auction, which is scheduled for July 24 – 27.
Mecum doesn't offer any estimate, nor did it mention a reserve on this lot. However, we do know that Flat Out Autos charged at least $129,950 for the Sierra 1500-to-Jimmy conversion back in March 2023. Said price includes the donor Sierra 1500 pickup truck.
This particular Jimmy was listed with 212 miles (341 kilometers) on Bring a Trailer back in March 2024, when it sold for a cool $150,500 sans the buyer's transaction fee, which ranges between $250 and $5,000, plus the $99 listing fee. But alas, shortly after the online auction ended on March 15, the winning bidder curiously backed out.
This, in turn, prompted Flat Out Autos to list the pickup-turned-SUV on social media for $149,900 with 220 miles (354 kilometers) on the odometer. Displayed at the 2023 SEMA Show, chassis number 3GTNUAED0NG607207 is the third built in the series by the Jonesboro-based firm.
The owner of 3GTNUAED0NG607207 also purchased number two, which is why he's trying to find a new owner for it. With a bit of luck, Mecum will find someone willing to match either the aforementioned $149,900 asking price or the $150,500 final bid. That's a helluva lot of money for a half-ton pickup with a retro throwback, but looking at the bigger picture, few Sierras can match the visual appeal of this particular truck.
Gifted with a 5'8" bed with a color-matched topper, said conversion features blue leather and white piping on the seats. Make that five of them because of a bench seat for three. Only the fronts are heated and ventilated. Backed up by a clean Carfax report and Texas title in the name of the seller's limited liability company, the Jimmy further sweetens the deal with Fox shocks, 22-inch Rotiform wheels in black, BDS upper control arms, and 285/50 R22 Nitto Ridge Grapplers.
Under the hood, you'll find a 5.3-liter small block rather than GM's 6.2-liter engine. It's kind of weird for a vehicle this expensive to come with the Sierra 1500's base V8, yet said 5.3er is adequately powerful and torquey at 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet (520 Nm).
Rather than an eight-speed automatic, a ten-speed unit is featured, which is a whopping seven more forward gears than the TH-350 from the 1970s. For the 2022 model year, the GMC Sierra 1500 with said engine was rated at anything between 15 and 18 miles per gallon (15.7 and 13.0 liters per 100 kilometers, respectively).
