Let's all agree that in many parts of the automotive world, including North America, the Japanese automaker Mitsubishi is a shadow of a shadow of its former self, shall we?
It currently sells just the Mirage, Eclipse Cross, Outlander Sport, and Outlander plus Outlander PHEV nameplates – and the Mirage will soon bow out. At the same time, the Eclipse Cross is not exactly a beauty, and the Outlander Sport is growing older and older by the day. Also, it's not aging like fine wine. Alone, the Outlander and Outlander PHEV stand as the bright spot in the lineup. But, of course, that's nowhere near enough for automotive enthusiasts.
As such, we shouldn't be surprised why the rumor mill and the imaginative realm of digital car content creators keep coming back for more Mitsubishi greatness in the form of nameplate revivals. Some pixel masters want a hero crossover SUV, others think only of making the Eclipse Cross or the best-selling Outlander even better, but a few secretly hope that the great Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution will make a high-performance sedan comeback.
It's all wishful thinking, for sure, even though Mitsubishi has recently announced the Momentum 2030 five-year business plan for North America, which includes a further expansion of the company's electrification strategy, more dealers across the region, better technology, and additional innovation, as well as a new or completely refreshed vehicle debuting each year and "new vehicles to be introduced across more segments."
However, a return of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution in XI form is not planned, most likely – at least in the real world. Over across the parallel universes of vehicular CGI, on the other hand, Alexis Poncelet, a car designer for GAC Milano who also dwells on social media independently as alexey_ponslav, has decided that Mitsubishi absolutely needs a new EVO. As such, he proceeded to create a fictional Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution XI in 3D from scratch using the popular 3D software Blender.
This unofficial design works extremely well because the pixel master kept the EVO series's general proportions in mind while mixing in a few cues from previous generations with modern Mitsubishi design DNA. For example, at the front, there are split headlights, rally-inspired round LEDs, a big intake for the bumper that also functions as a radiator grille, and even a classic hood scoop. The profile looks classic yet modern, and at the rear, the CGI expert fully referenced the EVO styling, complete with the legendary large wing.
Obviously, considering the big intake up front and the dual exhaust outlets at the rear, this design project remains firmly entrenched in the ICE age – and we presume the author also fitted his Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution XI project with rally-inspired all-wheel drive to make it complete. So, what do you think?
