Mitsubishi’s Australian division has confirmed that the ASX crossover will keep its name when it comes to the country’s market.
The new sub-compact all wheel drive vehicle is scheduled to be introduced to Australia in August .
According to Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited’s (MMAL) president and CEO, Masahiko Takahashi, the ASX nameplate is based on the concept of an “Active Smart Crossover.”
“The ASX is primarily a city car - very stylish and manoeuvrable around town - and the adoption of the European brand name reflects this,” the excutive said. “But ASX is more than just a pretty face. It also has the added benefit of being very smart, especially in terms of the technology that drives its engineering, design and all-wheel drive ability.”
The ASX is closely based on the Concept-cX concept car, which was introduced at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show.
MMAL has not released the specifications for the Australian ASX range, but it has confirmed that the line-up will include both diesel and petrol engines and will be available for sale in August.
Mitsubishi has recently announced the UK pricing for the ASX, confirming the fact that the vehicle will be available in British dealerships starting from July 1st. The crossover will come with a 1.6 liter petrol engine, which offers 115 hp and 114 lb-ft of torque and a 1.8 liter DID turbocharged diesel unit that produces 147 hp and 221 lb-ft of torque. Customers can choose between a two wheel drive version and a four wheel drive one. The car’s pricing will start at 14,999 pounds and will top at 22,049 pounds.
