It's always a little funny when a car knocks out another from a sister brand, as is the case in this MINI-on-BMW crash. You can just imagine the Obi-Wan Kenobi meme screaming "I trusted you. You were my friend." The incident appears to have happened yesterday on a twisting mountain road near Hong Kong.
This is the kind of crash that gives you nightmares. Sure, the Russian drivers are stupid, but at least you can usually see them before they crash into you, giving you precious moments to decide what to do.
But this is as unpredictable as a bat to the back of the head. As the video starts, we see the back of an older generation BMW 1 Series hatchback, a car that tends to crash a lot, especially on race tracks. But its driver is actually sticking to the speed limits and obeying all traffic laws.
Out of nowhere, a MINI hatchback comes across the double yellow line, smashing head-on into the BMW. Parts from both cars are sent flying everywhere. The image is too blurry for us to tell which model that is, but it looks like an R56 Cooper.
Considering the age of the two cars, they're probably going to be written off. Thankfully, the people in both vehicles exit a few moments later, shocked but still able to stand. They watch in awe as radiator fluid spills all over the road.
It's possible that the MINI actually understeered, but it doesn't appear to be going that fast. This is clearly a case of young drivers with less skill than bravery.
Moments after the crash, it becomes apparent that the road is now blocked, as a yellow Porsche Cayman arrives at the bottleneck. The car that filmed the accident, a Land Rover Defender, got it all. But will they dare to move the vehicles before the police arrive?
