There's splurging and then there's Kris Singh and his very unique – and quite awesome – idea of car customization. Make that hypercar customization because we're talking about a Pagani Utopia that should be delivered within the next year.
Kris Singh is a name that probably doesn't need much of an introduction to hypercar enthusiasts. For everyone else, suffice it to say that he's a world-famous car collector with a very soft spot for hypercars.
As luck would have it, the fact that he's a millionaire allows him to fully indulge his automotive passion – and to do so quite often because his net worth is believed to be somewhere around $200 million.
Back in 2018, Singh announced that, in anticipation of a planned delivery of an Aston Martin Valkyrie, he had bought and certified a piece of rock from the Moon. That rock would be grounded and then mixed into a custom paint developed for him by paint specialist Karosserie to achieve what he called the "Karosserie Lunar Red" custom paint.
Singh claimed credit for the idea, saying it was inspired by Valkyrie looking like a spaceship. In fact, it had such a spacey vibe to it that it made actual spaceships look like cars.
The spec on the Valkyrie would put him on the map even more than his impressive collection of rare and exclusive autos, making him the first human to own a car painted with actual Moon dust.
At the end of last month, Singh announced the death of the Valkyrie Moon-dust-painted dream. But fret not because he already has a replacement lined up – and it's more impressive, more expensive, and closer to Singh's own heart. He will be painting his Pagani Utopia with that custom-made paint.
A Pagani Utopia starts at about $2.5 million, but clearly, this isn't enough exclusivity for a man like Singh. So, he's bringing Karosserie back into the action again and, with Pagani, they will be painting the Utopia in this "epic new color never seen before."
Singh doesn't get into details because, obviously, he wants to keep people guessing until the big reveal. But he promises it will be awesome enough to make Aston Martin sorry for having missed the chance to claim this world first.
"During the 8 years I waited for my Valkyrie, Aston Martin lost their partnership with Red Bull, the value of the company tanked, Adrian Newey left the project, the company changed ownership, and the current sad shell of a once great brand decided they are not capable of handling the extremely valuable moon rock," Singh writes on social media. "Their loss. The show must go on."
He's been a Pagani loyal client for year, so it makes sense to take the Moon dust idea to them. Singh says his Utopia will be delivered within a year – or "the next 12 cycles of the moon," as he puts.
If Singh claims this custom Utopia will be very special, he couldn't be saying that lightly. His collection includes everything from a 1-of-5 Pagani Zonda Cinque, a Pagani Zonda S 7.3, a Huayra BC called "Macchina Volante," and the Pagani Huayra called La Monza Lisa that was crashed in Miami in 2016.
He also owns several Bugattis, four Chirons, a Divo, and the Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse formerly owned by Arnold Schwarzenegger. Add to the pile a considerable number of Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Rolls-Royces, and Hummers, and you get a decent appreciation of the treasures he's collected over the years.
