It’s time for another German hyperpowered vehicle to retire. 2010 sent the BMW M5 and M6 and the Audi RS6 home, but, before the year ended, Mercedes-Benz also asked the ML63 AMG to put down its guns, as autoblog.it reports.
The company also ended production of the ML450 CDI, the most powerful diesel version of the SUV. Yes, this means that the top hp & torque contenders in the ML range are now a thing of the past. The move comes in preparation for the launch of a new generation.
So, if you’re in the market for a new ML right now, what can you fill the space under the hood with? Well, the vehicle is left with two petrol powerplants and three oil burners. The entry-level petrol engine is a 272 hp V6 (ML350), which is followed by a 388 hp V8 (ML500). The diesel offer starts with a 190 hp V6 (ML300 CDI), continuing with a 224 hp V6 (ML350 CDI). The latter also has a BlueTec version, which develops 211 hp.
Before we end the story, we wanted to remind you that the ML 63 AMG was powered by a naturally aspirated 6.2 liter V8 engine with an output of 510 hp and 630 Nm of torque. The powerplant allowed the SUV to play the 0 to 62 mph game in five seconds flat and offer a top speed of 250 km/h/ 155 mph (electronically limited).
The engine was matted to a AMG Speedshift 7G-Tronic automatic gearbox, sending the power to the road via a permanent all-wheel-drive system that uses a 40:60 rear-biased delivery.
