The new all-electric Mercedes‑Maybach EQS 680 SUV is priced at AUD 328,607 (MRLP - Manufacturer's Recommended List Price) in Australia, which translates to $217,528, quite a bit more compared to the American MSRP of $179,900.
Opulence knows no boundaries, and after Mercedes-Maybach brought electrification into its ritzy lifestyle with the EQS 680 SUV in Europe or America, now it's time for the Land Down Under to suffer the transgression or the enlightenment – depending on your POV. Ours is that even though Mercedes-Benz strives to make the EQS worthy of the Maybach moniker, they're limping on just one leg because the source material is so horrendously boring and unsightly.

Anyway, Mercedes-Maybach enters the all-electric age in Australia too with the local debut of the EQS 680 SUV and puts an emphasis on the rear seat passengers "with an array of Maybach-specific comfort and luxury features at their fingertips as well as exceptional noise and vibration suppression." Plus, there's an optional First Class Rear Suite if the customers want opulence at its finest. Luxury is everywhere, though, via Nappa leather and wood trims, the Burmester 4D surround sound system with Dolby Atmos, and sustainability is inclusive with vegetable-tanned leather, among others.

The full-size EQS 680 SUV is the first all-electric model in the Mercedes-Maybach range and is now available to order in Australia from AUD 328,607. The optional First Class Rear Suite package is AUD 14,900 (MRLP), the Night Series Edition costs another AUD 34,900, and the optional pack is mandatory. Also, the six dual-tone paints are AUD 34,800 each! Also, do not forget that MRLP includes the GST and any applicable LCT (luxury car tax) but excludes all other on-road costs like registration fees, stamp duty, CTP, and others.

As is available elsewhere, the Australian specification of the Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV has dual motors with a combined output of 484 kW (649 hp) and 950 Nm (701 lb-ft) sent to all wheels via the company's proprietary 4Matic all-wheel drive system. The behemoth can reach 62 mph (100 kph) in 4.4 seconds and is prone to whaling its way to a top speed of 210 kph (130 mph), and range, as determined by the obsolete NEDC procedure, is up to 662 kilometers or 411 miles on a single charge. It has an onboard charger good for 22 kW (AC), while at DC fast charging stations, it can sip electrons with up to 20 kW and go from 10 to 80% in 31 minutes.

Ride comfort is the most important duty for this all-electric SUV, of course – the EQS 680 SUV not only comes with standard Airmatic suspension but also has a special Maybach drive program instead of Comfort, and there's even a bespoke "Aerial Grace" driving sound playing through the 15-speaker Burmester 4D sound system.
