Mercedes-Benz is expanding the production hardware at its Bremen plant in Germany, as the company plans to produce a new model there.
The car we are talking about is the C-Klasse coupe, which will come to the world via the facility starting from next year. The vehicle will join other three cars produced on a single, state of the art, flexible production line: the C-Klasse saloon, C-Klasse estate and the GLK SUV.
"The decision by the Board of Management to produce the Coupé version of the current C-Class here in Bremen as well represents another important milestone on our way to becoming Mercedes' competence centre for the C-Class and is a clear sign of the trust in the Bremen team's capabilities and standards," says Peter Schabert, Head of the Mercedes-Benz plant in Bremen.
The new Coupe version of the C-Klasse will be born at Bremen as the plant represents the company’s worldwide competence center for the high-volume C-Klasse range. This development will be continued in the future: the saloon version of the next generation C-Klasse, scheduled to be introduced in 2014, will also be produced at the Bremen facility. Thus, the plant will become the unique European-destined C-Klasse production site.
The Bremen site also has a second flexible production line that outputs the E-Klasse coupe and cabrio. It is also the exclusive SL and SLK roadsters manufacturing facility. The total workforce of the production site reaches 12,600 employees, making Mercedes-Benz the largest private sector employer in the region.
