As many of you know, Mercedes-Benz has been officially preparing a rival to the four-door-coupe-SUV from BMW for about two years now.
Most non-design details about the model have also been known for some time as well, including the fact that it will share most of its underpinnings with the current W166 M-Class and the X166 GL-Class.
Like the aforementioned SUVs, the new fullsize luxury crossover will be built in the Mercedes-Benz plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
What hasn't been known but only mildly-speculated until now has been the model's name, with most media outlets reporting it to be either MLC or MLS.
According to MB Passion, who are usually right about most of their insider scoops, the new crossover will be called GLC, with some of the design details of its swooping overall look to also be shared with its bigger brother, the GL.
This way, earlier reports about the GL also receiving a “four-door-coupe-SUV” version of its own were obviously wrong.
Oddly, the internal designation of the model is apparently C253, so even though its platform is shared with the other two SUVs, Mercedes-Benz treats it as a very different model.
