You may not be as interested in the launch of the new Mercedes-Benz Arocs truck range as you would be in, let’s say, the launch of the CLA 45 AMG, but we can tell you that these work horses are important. The Arocs is a truck series dedicated to construction, so if you want your house to be built faster, you’d better pay attention.
The engine range includes 16 power output levels, which go from 238 to 625 hp, all meeting Euro VI emission levels. The list of units includes the OM 936, OM 470, OM 471 and new OM 473. The latter, an in-line six oil burner, can go all the way up to 15.6 liters of displacement and 3,000 Nm (2,213 lb-ft) of torque. The company offers its PowerShift 3 automatic transmission as a standard feature, with this offering eight, twelve or 16 gears (optional).
Here’s how Mercedes describes the engine “On the test bench, the highest torque of all of the OM 473 variants is available at 1,100 rpm. In the real world, almost the entire tractive power is available across a wide range from around 900 to 1,400 rpm. Immediately thereafter, the engines reach their maximum output.”
As for the body configurations, you can choose between seven cab styles in 14 versions. To be more precise, we have tippers, all-wheel drive tippers, concrete mixers, tractor units and rigid chassis are available as two, three and four-axle vehicles.
The Arocs will make its public debut at the Bauma trade fair in April. Until then, if you really want to know everything about it, you can check out the comprehensive press release below (PDF file).
