For about a decade or so, lovers of compact luxury crossovers have had something truly spectacular to turn to: the Mercedes-Benz GLC. Introduced in 2015, the SUV has quickly become a pillar of the German carmaker's offensive in the segment, and it'll probably continue to do so for many years to come.
At the time of writing the GLC offering on the American market is limited to two models, the GCL 300 and GLC 300 4MATIC. From later this year, however, a third model will join the lineup.

It's the 2025 GLC 350e 4MATIC I'm talking about, a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) that's meant to give American customers more powertrain choices. The model will arrive on the continent in the second half of the year.

The GLC 350e in this new incarnation is powered by a combination of a 1,999cc internal combustion powertrain capable of developing 201 horsepower and 236 lb.-ft. of torque and a permanently excited electric synchronous motor that delivers an extra 134 hp – and that makes for a total power output for the model of 313 hp and 406 lb.-ft. of torque.

The 24.8 kWh battery included in the system is more than enough for the SUV to reach an all-electric range of 81 miles (130 km) while traveling at speeds of as much as 87 mph (140 kph). When depleted, the battery can be plugged into a 60 kW DC charger and brought back to capacity in about 30 minutes.

Equipment-wise, the PHEV will offer Americans all the standard equipment that is already available in the regular GLC models. Things like heated front seats, navigation, Frontbass audio system, and PARKTRONIC with Active Parking Assist are included in the package.

On top of that, and specifically imagined for use in the PHEV, the GLC 350e 4MATIC adds as standard equipment things like DC fast charging (with charging cable and Mercedes me Charge included), self-leveling suspension, and 64-color ambient lighting.

Mercedes-Benz will be offering the GLC 350e 4MATIC in three trim levels, namely Standard, Exclusive, and Pinnacle. The mid-range Exclusive comes with a Burmester 3D Surround System and Guard 360, while the top-of-the-range Pinnacle throws into the fight the mighty MBUX entertainment system and a head-up display.

Each of the three models will be available to be specced in no less than 11 colors, four of which are of the Manufaktur hues. They can be matched with a choice of eight wheel designs. On the interior there are 13 different upholstery options to choose from.

Although it has decided on a time when to launch the new model on the U.S. market, Mercedes-Benz did not reveal anything about the price tag of the 2025 GLC 350e 4MATIC (we'll get that closer to market launch, we're promised). For reference, though, the other GLCs currently available are going for prices ranging from $47,100 for the GLC 300 to $49,100 for the 4MATIC-flavored version.
