Here's a question for you: what if Mercedes-Benz and McLaren hadn't parted ways in the road car business? As supercar aficionados among you know, the early 2000s saw the two carmaker introduce the brilliant Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren. Only 2,157 units of the thing were produced, with the beast exiting the stage in 2010.
Meanwhile, each of the carmakers has pursued its own go-fast ambitions. McLaren returned to building street vehicles in 2011, which is how the MP4-12C was born. The British carmaker has grown like few others, with its current standard model, if we might call the 720S so, redefining the standards of the supercar segment.
As for the three-pointed star, the SLS that came after the SLR was more of a Grand Tourer than anything else. And while the current offering of the Germans, namely the Mercedes-AMG GT, is fiercer, this offer a very different flavor compared to McLarens.
And, to return to the question we dropped in the intro, we've brought along a rendering that offers a funky answer.
The pixel play, which comes from social media label J.B. Cars, showcases a Mercedes-AMG GT packing the aer-channeling eye sockets of the 720S that have caused so much controversy.
In fact, as the pixel wielders admit, the contraption we have here is actually a melange with four ingredients. To be more precise, the lower fron apron of the machine is borrowed from the 991.2-generation Porsche 911 GT3.
Then we have the wheels, which come from an entirely different part of the world. To be more precise, the rolling goodies seen on this toy are lifted off the new Ford GT. We have to keep in mind that the rolling goodies of the Blue Oval halo car are made of carbon.
So it's no wonder we've chosen this piece to be our pic of the day...
