For the second time in just two months, German carmaker Mercedes-AMG has set a new record for production cars on the Nordschleife racetrack.
Last month, the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S became the fastest four-seater car on the world famous circuit, after clocking a time of 7:25.41 minutes.

This week, the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S 4MATIC+ managed an equally impressive performance, as it has become the fastest SUV to ever tour to the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

The announcement of the achievement was made by Mercedes after the time of 7:49.369 minutes was officially acknowledged by an independent notary, together with the fact that the vehicle's condition was in accordance with regulations.

Powered by a 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbocharged engine, the SUV was raced down the track by AMG development engineer Markus Hofbauer. The man-machine combo managed to beat the previous record, set by the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Q, at the first attempt.

“The GLC 63 S 4MATIC+ is not only the top performer but also fully day-to-day suitable: it has plenty of space for passengers and luggage, a variable interior, extensive safety features and a high level of long-distance comfort,” said the carmaker in a statement.

The GLC 63 S is the range topper of the AMG-tweaked GLC SUV that was introduced last year. The V8 powering it is capable of developing 510 hp, being sent to all four wheels by an AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9-speed transmission.

There are four driving programs to be chosen by the driver of a GLC 63 S, namely Comfort, Sport, Sport Plus and Individual, each modifying the car’s parameters to better suit the driving style and the road surface.

The 4MATIC+ variable all-wheel-drive uses fully variable torque distribution to the front and rear axles to provide optimal traction.
